Cosmetic Surgery Plastic Surgery - 1836 Words

When you look in the mirror what do you see? Is it an image that you are satisfied with or is it an image that you would like to change? â€Å"85 percent of women and 72 percent of men are unhappy with at least one aspect of their appearance, according to research by Dr. Thomas Cash, a psychologist at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va.† (Goleman, 1991). I know many of you have heard of cosmetic surgery, also known as â€Å"plastic surgery†. Many people have considered cosmetic surgery in order to feel better about their self. This topic really interested me because I know there are many different viewpoints on it. What I wanted to focus on most is how the media portrays cosmetic surgery, how they portray women, the pros and cons of cosmetic surgery, the cost, and ways that we can get more people to be comfortable in their own skin so that they don’t have to resort to things such as cosmetic surgery. One of the biggest influences in the world today is the media. The media have a lot to do with how people think they’re supposed to look and/or act.
